Ok. I have set up my system to use alsa and because I wanted to be able to have the realtime sound syncing, so that I don't miss any reminders that my computer trying to remind me of when I'm watching movies or playing games.

Anyway. when I'm not useing esd, everything syncs ok, then when I use esd, movies in Mplayer don't sync correctly, and games (blobwars) skip with the sound, and is very hard to play.

I have the sdl libraries setup to use esd, and that's the only way that I could get it half way set up so that sound is somewhat in sync.

Is there a configuration file somewhere that I'm missing?

My wm is sawfish. amd athalon 1.2MB, 384MB ram.

G4L search results for 'esd config' (http://www.google.com/linux?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=esd+config&btnG=Google+Search) mentions esd-config in /usr/bin.

esd-config is a development file.

I'm using debian, and I've checked the bug reports on debian's site for esound, and alsa and their related pages, and I'm not finding anything.

Maybe I should compile esd for my system.

Sorry as I don't much at all about 'esd'. Anyone else?
