I'm having serious problems with my laptop video card and/or monitor. The card is an ATI Radeon IGP 320M. I just installed the patches for X11 and the 2.6 kernel from here (http://www.consultmatt.co.uk/nx9005/radeon-igp/index.php). The DRI seems to be working flawlessly, because in my X log I see these lines:
(II) RADEON(0): Acceleration enabled
(==) RADEON(0): Backing store disabled
(==) RADEON(0): Silken mouse enabled
(II) RADEON(0): Using hardware cursor (scanline 770)
(II) RADEON(0): Largest offscreen area available: 1024 x 7413
(**) Option "dpms"
(**) RADEON(0): DPMS enabled
(II) RADEON(0): X context handle = 0x00000004
(II) RADEON(0): [drm] installed DRM signal handler
(II) RADEON(0): [DRI] installation complete
(II) RADEON(0): [drm] Added 32 65536 byte vertex/indirect buffers
(II) RADEON(0): [drm] Mapped 32 vertex/indirect buffers
(II) RADEON(0): [drm] dma control initialized, using IRQ 10
(II) RADEON(0): [drm] Initialized kernel GART heap manager, 5111808
(II) RADEON(0): Direct rendering enabled
(==) RandR enabled

But as long as I'm on virtual terminal 7, my LCD screen apparently is powering itself off. I can switch back and forth and it reenables itself, but I get no graphics.

I've attached my XF86Config file. By the way, when I use VESA graphics instead of the Radeon driver everything's fine, except of course I have no hardware acceleration. Any ideas? :(

(I posted about a similar problem a while back, but I didn't want to bring up a dead thread.)

You forgot to post your XF86Config ;)

Do you know what the native display on the laptop is? I know with my Dell 600m if I use a resolution that is not compatable (which is most) the screen shows nothing (but the backlight does stay on, if your backlight is turning off you've accomplished something that is diffcult to do with a laptop Radeon, on accident! :D)

what's your laptop maker and model?

Huh. I could have sworn I hit the attach button. Oh well...

The laptop is an HP Pavilion ze4325us. The strange thing about my problem is that I'm using the exact same display resolutions for both drivers, yet one works and one doesn't.

See if the X config example at http://www.matts-workshop.com/hp_ze4325us_rh9.shtml helps.

From Linux-on-Laptops.

Thanks for the link, mdwatts. It was very informative, but unfortunately after trying all combinations of the suggested options I'm still not having any luck. I think my next course of action will be to email the author of the web site I got the patches from.
