while attempting to build k3b, I ran into dependency hell once again. I've managed to fix that until this point: libvorbisfile.la
I couldn't find it with whereis surprisingly, so i searched around Google a bit and found a "copy" or I believe was one, and downloaded it., and it finds it but says its invalid:
libtool: link: `/usr/lib/libvorbisfile.la' is not a valid libtool archive
make[3]: *** [k3b] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory `/root/k3b-0.11.9/src'
make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/root/k3b-0.11.9/src'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/root/k3b-0.11.9'
make: *** [all] Error 2
so I was wondering if anybody could give me libvorbisfile.la or a location I can grab it from, or tell me something i'm doing wrong. I also checked ld.so.conf but that shouldn't have to do anything with this.

libvorbis-devel should contain this file.

i will try this right now.
well here's another problem: i can't seem to find a tarball for these things... of course RPM's but not tarballs. Should it be in the libvorbis tarball?

okay well i resolved it, thanks for the help. I'll explain what I think happened and how i solved it:
You see I had that exact source file, and those files were in the tarball, but for some reason apparently they weren't copying to the correct directories, so I did some "whereis" on some different files, and copied them over to /usr/lib. I also had to make a directory called .libs under /usr/lib because it was looking for a few files there too. It took some time but I've got it all fixed now. Thanks for the help though.
now I need to go google some more and resolve some other package dependancies (like cdrecord lol) its kind of odd though, wouldn't thinks like cdrecord and cdrdao be a dependancy of k3b before you could even build it?

lol seriously I am (was) using Slackware when I did it. For some reason it wasn't installing the correct files into the right places. Besides, it was kind of fun. Plus I'm sure LFS is fun if you know what you're doing.

that's also very true, except when you get stuck and you start yelling at your monitor and bashing your keyboard like it will actually make something start to work. Then again that's pretty fun too half the time so its all good:D

If you can do Slack, you can do LFS, but why.....It's just dated.
