I've done something screwy to my monitor settings. I'm running suse 9 pro. I've configure xf86 according to directions. My monitor is an AOC Spectrum 5ea. I'm trying to run 800x600 at 75Hz. I've ran yast and sax and every time the test mode had failed. I've set the refresh rate in xf86 according to the manual specs. I've also tried different resolutions. I've found this error: xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display, I just don't know what to do to fix the problem. The screen works but its all fuzzy and mis-shaped. I can straighten it out a little with monitor settings but it is nothing like it was. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Cliff

If you have an Nvidia card get the drivers from SUSE and then it should be set.

Try removing the "#" in front of "glx" in /etc/X11/XF86Config(may have -4 at the end). This loads the glx module. Not sure why it is needed for monitor resolution.
Is there a "restore factory defaults" button or menu item on the monitor itself? Maybe try that also.

You should find your monitor model specs at

http://www.mit.edu/afs/sipb/system/rhlinux/redhat-6.2/RedHat/instimage/usr/X11R6/share/Xconfigurator/MonitorsDB

As HC posted, you can also find lots of other troubleshooting tips by searching the JL forums for 'glx missing'.

* I followed the suggestions I found and the ones you suggested. Somewhere something is corrupt. I'll do a fresh install and start over.

Thanks Again,

Cliff

I had been doing the correct things from the suggestions and the research along with the manual, but it was still not working. I unplugged the monitor and hooked it up to a windows machine, guess what, it had the same symptoms a.k.a. a bad monitior. We will replace it and move on. Thanks again,
