Just installed Fedora Core 1 on a machine I am setting up as a MythTV box. Now, when I try to go to package management and install any packages I get an error and when I click ok it closes the Package Management Program.

I am trying to install "Kernel Developement" so that I can install a driver for a Belkin USB wifi nic.

I get the "Updating system" message like normal but then I get a new window titled "Error Installing Packages".
"There was an error installing packages. Exiting"

My only option is to click ok.

Any info appreciated.

Hi

Try installing using the command line. Use the rpm command w/ its proper switches/options.

Moved to the Software forum since Installation is meant for distro install issues.

I *CAN* install stuff using the RPM command from the CLI.... that bing said I would still like to retain functionality of the Application installer... It's difficult to try to install a group of 45 packages individually when you could do it with two clicks.

or
rpm -ivh *.rpm

if they are all in the same directory, if there are extras also that are installed, this will only install the new ones also

rpm -Uvh *.rpm and it will update with all the RPMs but won't update already updated ones...

Still, can't fix the GUI install with out error messages...I don't know where they are logged though. /var/cache?

Hi

rpm -ivh command lets you install multiple packages separated by a space, tho this doesn't sound too feasible when you have that many to install.

yea, as mahdi said, you could try copying those packages to a directory and use the * wildcard to install everything in there.

Did the Package Management work when you first installed your distro or has it never worked? If it has never worked, check the Fedora support site, bugzilla, forums etc. to see if this is a known problem.

Does the PM keep a logfile you can review to hopefully find the error message?

Hi

Fedora Core 1 uses the redhat-config-packages utility for the GUI frontend to package management.

I guess you might be able to fix the utility by reinstalling this package :
redhat-config-packages-1.2.6-1.
