I have an nforce2 motherboard which use some nvidia doulby digital sound card but i have read the the i810 drivers will work fine with this sound card.

Now where abouts in the kernel menuconfig so i can compile a new kernel.

OK, i got it compiled ok, and i can modprobe it but how to i configure it so that it uses /dev/mixer instead of /dev/sound/mixer? And i and running winex and i says it can do something with /dev/dsp... what i that all about.. do i need to configure it?

Whenever you post questions like this, by including the following info, the list of possibilites would go from endless to maybe a dozen.
1. Kernel version
2. Distro
3. And probably the desktop version (Kde, gnome, etc) would be nice also.

As root
ln -s /dev/sound/mixer /dev/mixer
