Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : What distro are YOU using??? carbon-12 04-12-2004, 12:32 PM Yaaah I like these kind of threads :) Ryochan7 04-12-2004, 12:38 PM Right now, I'm using Mandrake 10 Community with a custom 2.6.5 kernel; I need the 2.6.5 kernel for my ATI Remote Wonder. Edit: Going to switch back to Mandrake 9.2. Icarus 04-12-2004, 12:44 PM Anyone else have a feeling that Mike might of tampered with the scores ;) carbon-12 04-12-2004, 12:49 PM Originally posted by mahdi Anyone else have a feeling that Mike might of tampered with the scores ;)... :D mdwatts 04-12-2004, 01:06 PM Originally posted by mahdi Anyone else have a feeling that Mike might of tampered with the scores ;) Mike WHO? I haven't seen him around for a while. ;) EnigmaOne 04-12-2004, 01:18 PM Oh....I just figured that it was more of that IDC research-like-stuff. ;) Hayl 04-12-2004, 01:28 PM like we need another thread like this.... <sigh> ph34r 04-12-2004, 01:44 PM Fedora at work, since I teach a class using it. Fedora at home for the same reason, but I used to use Slack 9.1 in both places. My mail/dns/web server at home is Debian. Used to use LFS and Gentoo... Icarus 04-12-2004, 01:49 PM Originally posted by Hayl like we need another thread like this.... <sigh> Quick! Send Hayl a PM asking which distro you should use! He LOVES those questions! :D Pain 04-12-2004, 02:08 PM I really don't have much choice since i can't seem to get any distro to fully work with the NForce2 Ultra chipsets other than Mandrake 10.0. Guess if I have to be stuck with one this one is not too bad. serz 04-12-2004, 03:37 PM Mike, could you stop playing with the poll? :p sploo22 04-12-2004, 04:18 PM Whee! Gentoo's winning! :D ...or not... chesskidd 04-12-2004, 04:41 PM -2147483646 for Genty, is it overflowed? roamingnomad 04-12-2004, 05:05 PM ahhh.... when mods have free time. Somebody get a newbie to start posting all the usual questions. :p Icarus 04-12-2004, 05:09 PM No kidding, geez guys :D I've been too busy trolling Slashdot trying to educate the brainless (hopeless cause, but maybe one or two will learn something) :) Let's see how long this poll keeps 'normal' now GigaShadow 04-12-2004, 05:30 PM Sourcemage, Slack 9.1, and soon Rubyx G :D gehidore 04-12-2004, 06:11 PM nice poll ohh and gentoo 2.6.5 soon to be next release psi42 04-15-2004, 01:12 AM Lookie Lookie Someone's been a-messin' with them polls. Why do I not see the word "wombat" up there? That seems to be mdwatts' calling card.... :) serz 04-15-2004, 01:56 AM I admit I edited the poll once :p Guys, is Mike the mod who likes to play with the polls? :D canon006 04-15-2004, 02:14 AM Mepis on my desktop(not for much longer, moving to Mandrake 10), and Slackware 9 on my gameserver(UT2004, SOF2, CS, RTCW, ET, Quake 3, not all at once of course....:). Pain, you might want to try Mepis, it runs pretty well on my Abit NF7-S (running it on an IDE drive since it doesn't recognize the SATA controller). You might want to try and see how you like it, it's a bootable distro with a nice, easy hdd installer. DSwain 04-15-2004, 02:19 AM I use tons all the time... right now (2:16am EST) finishing up a Gentoo install, also got FreeBSD 5.2.1 running, and downloading Linspire 4.5 and one called DeLi .5 janne_oksanen 04-15-2004, 04:34 AM I personally would have found it interesting to know the real results of that poll. Oh well... XiaoKJ 04-15-2004, 05:47 AM Actually, if everybody had a chance to vote in the poll all the time, I would have voted all of them why? I newbie should start from the basics, Redhat/Fedora, Mandrake and SuSE, all without fail to feel linux and the distro differences. Then they will proceed along to the others and will at least use all of them once. Thus, the poll results should be the same even if it were not tampered with. It reflects the people using linux and linux users are a mixture of similar amounts of people along the learning curve. As the now newbies move up newer newbies will take their places..... gehidore 04-15-2004, 05:51 PM Originally posted by janne_oksanen I personally would have found it interesting to know the real results of that poll. Oh well... uh then look at the poll all that was done was the numbers were changed to start at 111111 Exempt 04-17-2004, 05:31 AM First Redhat 8, then Redhat 9, and now SuSE 9... Some say SuSE is 'bloated', but I like it... Will probably try out Slack or Gentoo someday...;) sploo22 04-17-2004, 06:27 PM You know, you'd think the board software would complain when there are 16 times more votes than registered members! DSwain 04-17-2004, 09:10 PM Well maybe unless guests can vote or something like that... but i don't think they can... eh, gotta do what you gotta do. cybertron 04-17-2004, 11:06 PM It's nice to see that the mods get to have some fun (and a break from answering the usual newbie questions) ONCE in a while :) mdwatts 04-18-2004, 08:58 AM Originally posted by cybertron It's nice to see that the mods get to have some fun (and a break from answering the usual newbie questions) ONCE in a while :) Manually editing 'polls' is about the only fun the other moderators are allowed to have here at JL. ;) carbon-12 05-05-2004, 02:45 PM BUMP! This poll deserves to live dammit :D YAHHH Slackware is tied for 1st!!!! DSwain 05-05-2004, 03:39 PM Gentoo 2004.1 right here. good stuff. if you're lazy its good, oh except for the good 12+ hour install. Of course, it can be much less, but you know how it is... goon12 05-05-2004, 04:52 PM Slackware 9.1 bradfordgd 05-05-2004, 06:23 PM RedHat AS 2.1 at work, RedHat 7.3 at home. JayMan8081 05-05-2004, 07:02 PM Mandrake 10.0 Community at work and on my home laptop. Fedora Core 1 on my home server, soon to be replaced with Debian. justlinux.com
