using apache

Is there any knowledge I need to have before I setup Apache? I have been a windows user for some time and started using linux about a year ago. I don't have alot of knowledge about how servers work. I would like to setup my own webpage at home. I am basically starting with no knowlede at all. I have slackware 9 installed on my pc and have installed apache 1.3. I have not made a webpage or gotten a domain name. I am wonder if I am getting ahead of myself by trying to setup apache before I learned anything about dns an ip routing.

you generally don't run your own DNS, your ISP or the person you register your domain with does that for you.

you should go to the Apache web site and read their documentation before you go ahead.
