I'm currently planning to build a new computer from scratch and I was wondering which graphics card I should get.

I'm planning to do a debian-unstable net install. Windows will be on there for games, but thats about it. (Main overdrive of the card really)

I know the nVidia drivers are way easier to install, but I was wondering if any of the ATI cards made up for it in processing or price. I'm planning to spend $100 to $150 on the card.

What brand/card do you think I should get?

If performance is important to you, I would go with ATI. I have a year and a half old ATI card that smokes my NVIDIA, which I have had for about 2 months.

For the most part, I've seen that the nVidia and the ATI cards perform similarly. I've never done any benchmarks myself, but it seems that in most cases, spend $150 on either brand and one will perform better than the other in certain areas, but they're both going to be roughly the same for the most part. I'd go with the nvidia card myself, due to the Linux support. I did vow years ago when we bought our 350 K6-2 that I would never buy an ATI card after finding out that the crappy 350 system had an ATI card, but now after learning much more about computers, and nearly completing my CS degree (22 more hours! woohoo!), I realize it more the fact that it was built to be a crappy, cheap, onboard card. Their newer, expensive cards perform great things.

In all honesty, I doubt you'll notice much a difference with either card. As I said, I'd personally go with the nvidia.
