create channel without using Windoz

Hello: I want to create a channel on my html page for users to add an icon to their desktops. Is there such a thing for linux/windoz viewers?

What is Windoz?

Seriously, though, channels are ultimately a function of the browser, so you can go ahead and write it but only people using browsers that have the concept of "channels" (and support the specific format you're using) will be able to do anything with it.

What exactly is a channel? I doubt there's anything like that in Linux, since what little I understand about the concept doesn't seem to make sense to me, and everything in Linux is supposed to make sense. :)

Channels are a gimmick web developers began using a few years ago.. Basically it's just a glorified bookmark.
