hi,
I have a libretto 100ct which currently has an old version of mandrake on it.

I would ike to install something newer however I have a small problem in that I dont have a CD Rom drive and only a 1.5Gb hard disk which is enough.

The prolem I am facing is that all distros need to either boot from a CD or need multiple boot disks.

The libretto does have a pcmcia floppy disk drive which it can boot from, however unless the linux boot disk contains drivers for the floppy drive on the initial image I cant swap disks mid boot for additional drivers.

I am not to sure how I initially installed mandrake. I think back then it only had a sinlge pcmcia boot disk and I did a network install.

I have a desktop with Redhat 9 installed but need something a bit smaller for the libretto. Was thinking maybe remove the hard drive from the laptop and place it in my desktop and do a linux from scratch but this will probably take me quite some time but would give me a 2.6 kernel I guess. The hardware configuration would take a little more work but I guess I can use the current install to get a list of the drivers needed.

I would appriciate some suggestions on how I could install a more upto date distro.

well that's a tight squeeze there... i have no idea how you would go about doing that unless you could make some system where you boot off the network off a computer on your network and install it somehow from there. Without a floppy or cdrom its a bit tough.

As for a good distro, how about some specs? it shouldn't be too challenging to get any distro on there, but specs may help. For something smaller, i would say probably something like Slackware would work well.
