In the past my cdrom and cdr and even dvd drives ahve been recognised and installed simply enough for my purposes by whatever distro I'm using, but i find that with the latest Suse, there appears to be no CDR listed under kb3. although it shows up fine in the hardware information section of Yast. Can someone give me some troubleshooting tips.

Click on the tools tab of the k3b menu and choose configure k3b. If your cdr is not shown in the list that comes up, showing your devices, then click add device button and enter your cdr info. See if that will work.

Does

cdrecord -scanbus

show the devices?

If you have kernel 2.6 and you've disabled SCSI emulation, then you'll have to use cdrecord dev=ATA -scanbus (or cdrecord dev=ATAPI scanbus) instead. But yeah -- try that.

Thanks alot lads. all sorted now, just had to configure it in Yast (which is a suprisingly very useful tool), all my apps found it after that.
