Is the nforce3 chip buggy just like the nforce2?

Have a look/search through the Nvidia forums to see what others have to say about the nforce2/3 chipset.

well I have an nforce 2, and what i can tell you is that it is a bit annoying because to make use of the LAN and things like that you have install the drivers, and it maybe has made my linux systems a bit clumsy but other than that it works perfectly fine. Honestly i would say its perfectly fine, i doubt that the chipset presents problems to my system, but i just perfer not to use it anymore, so i just stick with all addon decices which works well for me.
<edit>
nothing against it, but i believe i will go with a VIA chipset next time, as i hear they're good chipsets and they have good support under Linux. I also look at what's included with the chipsets, like the RTL8139 cards built in, one thing which the nForce chipsets don't have, why you have to install drivers manually for it.

nForce2 was not buggy at all for me with the new Mandrake 10.0

I did find my other computer with a KT400 chipset buggy.

this is true: at the time i believe i was using mdk 9.1 & 9.2 and some other distro's which didn't have nforce chipset built into it. So honestly it may be perfectly fine, possibly better for all I know, just sharing what i know
