Hi Folks
Running Mandrake 9.1 since nov 2003
I still have to keep a WinX machine just to use my scanner

The whole system works like a dream But for my
Agfa SNAPSCAN 1212U flat bed scanner

I have looked and looked and did read TFM

Basically the scanner is declared in the K Control Panel
and
in the Mandraxe Control Center Hardware listing

AND

sane-find-scanner
gives
found USB scanner (vendor=0x06bd, product=0x2061) at /dev/usb/scanner0
found USB scanner (vendor=0x06bd [AGFA ], product=0x2061 [SNAPSCAN]) at libusb:001:002

scanimage -L
gives
device `snapscan:/dev/usb/scanner0' is a AGFA SNAPSCAN flatbed scanner
************
I have edited the snapscan.conf file
with the line
firmware /etc/sane.d/1212U_2.bin
( which is where I put the Backend )

and uncommented the following lines
/dev/usb/scanner0 bus=usb
and
Agfa 1212U
usb 0x06bd 0x0001
usb 0x06bd 0x2061

the file dll.conf
has the line
snapscan
in it

I even have the XSANE icon on the desktop !

BUT....
when I try to launch XSANE either as a user or root

I get
" failed to open device 'snapscan/dev/usb/scanner0" invalid argument "

there is a scanner0 in /dev/usb

Funny thing is that I can comment the firmware line
and nothing changes..

Ummmm... the path that is being specified in the above error message starts in snapscan rather than in /dev... You may want to make sure that the command and path are separated with a space.

Also there is more helpful information about snapscan here. (http://snapscan.sourceforge.net.)

Thank you for your answer Knut
I finaly got it running, I messed around so much with it that I had actually forgoten to keep a space in between firmware and
the path like this
firmware/etc/sane.d/1212U_2.bin
insted of
firmware /etc/sane.d/1212U_2.bin

I discovered it shortly after posting this thread ...

silly isnt it ! But I am really glad that its up and running.

Moving to Linux is a bit like in the old days with dos
but it certainly works much much better !!
