I am trying to build a digital picture frame out of an old laptop similar to the one here.

http://www.linuxtoys.net/article.php?18.0

They use RH9, but I am reluctant to use that with a 50mhz system. I tried searching for a solution to this to no avail.

Additionally the laptop has no built in nic. I have PCMCIA nics and a Xircom parallel port nic that I can use and I am familiar with making a dos boot disk with nic drivers so that shouldn't be a problem but as far as acually getting the linux TO the laptop I am still not sure how to proceed. I can get the laptop on the network with dos but where do I go from there? There's no way to PXE boot something from PCMCIA or parallel port NIC that I am aware of due to the devices not having BIOS.

Thanks!

FTP install? Most distros have ftp installation docs posted on their ftp servers.

For a choice of other possible distros, have a look through this forum for similiar threads as you will find distro suggestions and links to sites that compare and list specific distros for high or low end systems.

Okay... I will do more investigation on ftp installs. I do have a question though what terms would you reccomend searching on? I find a lot of stuff about installing Linux on older machines but not 50mhz... Simply, can I run RH9 or Fedora or any NEW (wireless capable) OS in ANY form (run level 2 only ofcourse) on 50mhz?

I often post http://old.lwn.net/Distributions/ in this forum that should help you decide upon a distro for your hardware.
