abiword w/ cups

this is either an AbiWord or a CUPS issue, i'm not sure which. when i go to print up a document on the printer, it ignores the first half-inch of the top margin and prints far to lightly. however, if i print off the cli echo hello! > /dev/lp0 , the darkness is just fine.

i'm using slack 9 w/ the version of cups that is included with it. abiword is the newest version.....2.0.5. printer is a canon bjc-250.

what am i doing wrong?
