I am not sure what is causing this problem, but I've narrowed it down to not
being an issue with my network card. I've tried both a 3Com and an Intel
card, and both exhibit the same type of problems. I am thinking it's driver
related, but I do not really know much about diagnosing network problems.
I have a Redhat Linux 7.2 server running on a cable modem that I frequently
access from work and other locations. It's basically a file server. For
some reason, any data over a certain size seems to time out upload trying to
download from the box. These are typically zip or rar files that I'm
accessing, sometimes an occasional mp3. My downstream functions well,
although the upstream does not. Usually I get around 1448 bytes downloaded
and it just starts to hang, and eventually times out. My upstream is of
course capped at around 50 kb/s, so that's not the problem. I also have 2
other boxes on this same home network, both running Windows 2000 Advanced
Server. Neither of these boxes have the same issue happening.
I've read numerous posts on http://groups.google.com from people that have
noticed the same type of thing happening, yet I've not seen any real
solution to the problem. I've at least been able to verify that my MTU and
MRU are set at proper numbers, and beyond that I do not know what other
steps to take to work out the problem. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Jason
