I have got a piece (old server) that I'd like to transform to good use :)

2 x CPU, Pentium II (233Mhz x 2)
4 Gb IDE drive
384 Mb RAM
CD-drive
Floppy
2 NIC's

I would like to install a distro that will work (only) as a firewall/router.

I think it's easier to administer in a GUI but I'm not afraid of the CL (or Vi) ... so therefor I could go for a "No-X situation" ... :)

Any distro will suffice as long as you are selective in the packages and services you install/enable.

http://www.distrowatch.com

Search freshmeat.net for i.e. 'firewall' or 'gateway' and you will likely find distros such as Shorewall among others.

you can run a firewall box on a 486 if you anted to so hardware is not an issue.

if you are looking for an out-of-the-box firewall-ony distro - try smoothwall.

also - try searching the forums first, this question has been asked many times before.

There are a number of distros specifically for that purpose. I have used;

http://lrp.steinkuehler.net/

and

http://www.smoothwall.org/

Both work very well.
