I am running Suse 7.1 with gnome. I attempted to change the desktop theme from the ugly default. First I chose the aqua theme hit try. I did not care for it so I chose the revert option. I then recieved an error stating that the "theme-selector-capplet" has crashed due to a fatal error. After a complete system reboot the error remains and I appear to be stuck with same ugly default. Would an upgrade to gnome 1.4.1 help. If so would it be a pain to do so in Suse 7.1. Thanks

I just tried desktop config as the root user. It worked at first but after trying revert once again I experienced the same crash and now neither my normal account or my root account can use the desktop config, even after reboot. :(

I guess it would. v1.2 is pretty outdated after all and even the themes might need a more recent version. The most painless upgrade would be using ximian gnome, I guess. They support SuSE 7.1 so head over to http://www.ximian.com/download/

if you have lynx on your machine, run the following as root in a terminal:

lynx -source http://go-gnome.com/ | sh

Hey, Thanks guys. I am going to install it right now. Probably take a couple hours to download based on Ximians connection speed of course. I'll tell you how it went. Thanks again.
