Hi guys! I tried to install AMSN on my Red Hat 6.2 where I rencetly also installed tcl 8.4.6, but AMSN was impossible to install. I did as it was instructed (./amsn) and then a line in shell said that there was an error in the file 'amsn' and that the problem was in the file, on the line 202 "reload_files". I even tried with amsn8.3 and the same problem accur, but on the line 127.

I even tried to install the RPM file, but it required some dependencies, that to be franch I didn't understand!

How do I fix the problem?

Ya man! The same kind of problem! And in both cases I got the same result even though I did what they required!

Although I didn't install tk 8.4.6 after I install tcl 8.4.6, do U think it might be consiquences of it?? I thought that tk and tcl were the same thing, therefore I thought that to install one is the same as installing the other (just like GNOME and KDE). That is what I thought, was I wrong?

Thx a lot by the way for your answer!

Or maybe it could be the kernel? As I have an old RH 6.2 having a 2.2 kernel version, wouldn't it be the reason it is impossible to install?

:(

TK and TCL...without getting technical....think of one as the engine and the other as the gui. Gotta have the engine to drive the gui....similar to gtk in gnome. As far as the kernel goes, you would have to refer to AMSN's site to see what their recommendation si.

I'm using fedoracore2, have tried the tarball, rpm, even the bin file without any results. I use gaim now and don't really care about amsn, if they wanted a noobie like me to use it, they wouldn't make it so hard to install

I used to swear by aMSN but gaim won me over in the end.

Maybe you can just install all the tk/tlk development stuff by using the rpm-manager (if there is one in 6.2) and using the menus to install everything off the cds. Use the clusterbomb method.

I also would recommend upgrading to FC1 or FC2 inless you have a good reason to stick with 6.2.

well, I'm running amsn now, I got fed up with FC2 and switched to Debian so it's as easy as apt-get install amsn!, btw, the debian-installer rocks!
