I can download programs and applications off the internet but I don't quite understand how to install it once it's downloaded. I am running Suse Linux Personal 9.0, someone told me I had to do something with rpm or yast? I'm confused... help would be greatly appreciated. thank you
Yes, YaST is what SuSE uses to manage packages (install, remove, etc) and other things.
SuSE packages are rpm's.
Info:
Compiling Software (http://www.justlinux.com/nhf/Software/Compiling_Software.html)
Maximum RPM (http://www.redhat.com/docs/books/max-rpm/max-rpm-html/)

If you downloaded the RPM, then all you do is open the rpm file by double clicking it. Yast automatically comes up and presents to you the option "Install package with YaST" choose this option.
From here YaST installs and configures your app for you. Its pretty slick.
hope that helps.
