I was looking at the sun website, when you download from sun.com there are only 2 files for the new sun paltform, I found another download loacation which puts it into iso format, but it's 5 cd's as vice 2 cd's...
does anyone know where I can download the 2 iso images for a x86 cd rom installation? Im gonna put it on my new laptop.

Last time I looked they didn't allow free downloads of the x86 version. My guess is you found the bonus cd's which I think would be free. So you need to buy it from them and then you can get access to the download site

I went to the sun.com website and found a place to register, after doing so it asked me if it was for educational use, business or other, I clicked other, and then it took me to a pre download page, it was an instructional page on how to burn the cd's properly, and it has some programs that are sun programs. at any rate the files that you can download are zip file format its cd 1 and 2 but again they are in a zip format. then you can buy the x86 cd for 20.00 and the dvd for 90 I think it was, at any rate you can go to the web site and see for yourself, I choose sun becuse I use it at work and I am more comfertable with it, and it is a more stable platform in my opinion.

so you want to download there zip files sol-9-u5-install-x86.zip sol-9-u5-x86-v1.zip, and sol-9-u5-x86-v2.zip which are in the required section of the page. This is the link I followed. Fill it in the hit submit there a few other pages and a regstration then you will see the download page

You might have been ther already but I'm not sure from what you have said. Once you download the files you will need to unzip them which takes a good chuck of space. the unzipped files are iso that can be burnt to cd I downloaded and check this. I like solaris to but the x86 version itsn't as good as the sparc so I stick to linux for my laptop.

well, it may not be as graphical as some ver's of linux but I have found that solaris is more stable by far, more than any version of linux that I have tried, I have tried redhat 7.3-9.0, mandrake 9.1-9.2, suse 81.-8.2-9.0 Professional and on my main pc I have had to load windows 2000 pro for my wife, so I am looking for a gui linux-unix distro for a laptop that I have purchased. Its a pentium3 500mhz 128 ram 64 nvidia video. at this point im just in a testing stage with what is going to work best, I will be using it for school purposes. so that said, until I find a slimmer design that I like that is not totally idiot friendly like windows or mandrake/suse/redhat parsay, I will stick with solaris, atleast I use it 9 hours a day, so I am verry familiar with the platform.

Everyone knows that the most stable distrobution of GNU/Linux is Debian. Slackware probably comes in a close second.
