Using John the ripper

Hi all. I have recently downloaded knoppix std, a wonderful disc, by the way, and I was wondering how to use one of the programs on it. I have looked at the documentation that came with it on the knoppix disc, but I still can't figure out how to use john the ripper to crack ( I mean "recover" ) a windows xp password. Could anyone out there help me out with this? Thanks.

I suggest that you check the online documentation for JtR, and make sure that you have the appropriate plugin installed.
