Okay I have found a modem that I think will work with Linux on my laptop BUT I can't seem to get a definitive answer in my searches. It does have the Rockwell(Conexant) chipset (a bonus) but that is about all I can find that looks promising.

The Modem I am asking aoubt is this --> BestData BDP 56SPC

That is about the only information I could gleen at the store, I couldn't look at the chipset numbers or anything else.

Thanks!

I've avoided Conexant chipsets like the plague.

Is probably a safer bet for use with Linux. It works.

Check out www.linuxant.com. What this does is loads the actual windows drivers to use in linux. The whole process is very easy and takes about 10-20 minutes. Your modem may or may not be supported, you just have to go to the web site and look at the conexant modem section.
