Hey, I was thinking about trying gentoo. But as you know I use a laptop and it will overheat after a few minutes without acpi. How is acpi in the kernel that comes on it? *Getting tired of slackware package management*. Is gentoo much harder than slackware?

the kernel is basically the same on all distros so I am not sure what you mean... specifically with reagards to ACPI i highly doubt there are even any distro-specific patches applied to the kernel ACPI code, at least i have never seen any.

with Gentoo they give you the choice of _many_ different kernel patch sets, or you can use vanilla.. and you can also use 2.4.x or 2.6.x kernels.

if you want to see what kernel sources are currently in portage then look here: http://packages.gentoo.org/packages/?category=sys-kernel

well, it doesn't matter, I think I will install from my existing slackware distro that already has acpi so no matter...thanks.
