Kernel Panic Kill Init

I'm trying to install Mandrake 8.0 on a Pentium Cyrix based machine. I downloaded the iso and burned it CDROM.

At the install screen, using the cdrom.img, the install process appears to start.

Then the dreaded:
kernel panic kill init and it locks.

Is there something I can do?

Is kernel panic kill init the exact error message that you get? How far into the install do you get before you see the error?

That is the message I get. There is more at the top of the screen, because its going through the boot up.

After the menu screen loads, I hit enter, it seems to load okay, then stops with the kernel Panic Kill Init.

I could list more if need be.
