Anyone know what is different about them? dr_te_z 03-21-2004, 01:58 PM Yeah, well. What's the difference between an Opel and a Ford... 2 Completely different databases. Like Opel and Ford are both cars, they are both RDMS's. The history of MaxDB goes back to 1977: it is based upon SapDB, which is based upon Adabas D, which is based upon DDB/4, which is based upon Nixdorf, which is based upon TU Berlin. People sometimes talk about MySQL as not "quite finished" or "not marture" enough to compete with DB/2 or oracle or sybase. Well, this does not count for MaxDB! blackrax 03-21-2004, 03:27 PM Originally posted by dr_te_z [mysql regarded as] "not marture" enough to compete with DB/2 or oracle or sybase sybase may be mature, but my personal experience with it is not a gratifying one. i was forced to mingle with an antediluvian sybase db in a project i was working on (server was running nt4 or so) - that thing constantly crashed (no - not the nt server, it was rather stable - the database): send it a malformed sql statement; it crashed - send it a formatted (ie; 'human readable') sql statement, it crashed. on top of that, it was the first db i've seen with bilingual naming of tables and columns, yet the database was designed by only one 'expert' hoffa69 03-21-2004, 03:32 PM Well, it seems that most scripts I see out there are written for MySQL. I've used mysql and it seems to be fine to me. justlinux.com
