I realize that "Linux is Linux is Linux" but I'd like to know which distro (and maybe which kernel) would be recommended for someone who has an ATI Radeon 9500 Pro card and an nforce2 motherboard? I'm running RH 9.0 right now and I've pretty much given up on getting hardware 3d rendering to work on my machine, and believe me I've tried. Anyone with a similar setup have any particular luck with any particular distro? Thanks.

This is an .iso confused question...

I'd say your most common responce to this will be Gentoo, but I feel any will work fine (I game with Fedora and Gentoo)

it doesn't matter what distro.

it's more a of a kernel thing, and whether or not ATI has linux drivers for the card you have.

definately do a 2.6 kernel though. much faster than 2.4

Windows XP with DirectX 9 (for gaming with the latest games with a radeon card, stick with WinXP, the work involved in getting the games to run properly on linux is not "cost-effective" IMHO) Running them on linux is more of a moral victory than a practical matter, I've run some games with transgaming and the "older" games such as Castle Wolfenstein, Unreal, etc do Ok but it is so much easier on WinXp.

KidCharles, i recommend win98se if you want just to game, or windows xp embedded but thats it, XP is only good if you actually use it, but if you are just gaming then 98se is the best rather than use up another 500mb (could make a dif if you have a small hd). thats my suggestion
