Don't know how I did it, but I did it. Trashed OpenLinux. I did something to kill either kde or the password file. I could't login as root, user, or pbadmin (PerfectBACKUP admin). I have a recent full system backup that I can't access.
I ended up reinstalling OpenLinux eDesktop 2.4, which starts with partition format (wiped out everything). After a bit of setup, I reinstalled PerfectBACKUP. I still can't get at my backup. When I set the restore parameters, and click on start restore, the program quits completely.
/etc/crontab has this:
#mm DD MM DoW user command
*/5 * * * * root /sbin/rmod -a
#extensions
5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50,55,0 * * * * pbadmin sh -c /usr/bin/dmnstart
20 3 * * * 3,3 pbadmin /usr/bin/pbcsh
/var/log/messages has this:
pbadmin /usr/bin/dmnstart
root /sbin/rmod -a
with time stamps showing that the root command follows the pbadmin almost immediately.
The PerfectBACKUP documentation says that I should be able to restore the backup using cpio. As yet, I haven't been able to get it to work. Nothing writes to disk. Other documentation I've found says that cpio has to be setup to write to a raw device and not to /dev/xxx0, where xxx0 represents the backup device (Zip, tape, etc).
Any ideas?
Caldera Support is not an option. My free support period has expired. Additional support available on a per-case basis (very expensive).
PerfectBACKUP's only support is to send an email, which hasn't been answered in over a week.
:confused:
