Just today something happened to my XP install and I was forced to re-install it. The computer was running windows xp when i got it but I decided to install gentoo as well. I didnt seem to have any problems installing gentoo over xp, but installing windows over gentoo is giving me some trouble. Whenever I run xp setup and try to create a partition in the free space it tells me that it cannot create another partition because the max number of partitions has been reached. How would I go about creating another ntfs partition that windows could be installed on? Thanks!

How many partitions do you have, and what type are they?
You can only create 4 primary partitions on a disk AFAIK. But you can create as many logical partitions in an extended partition as you like.

I only had 3 partitions when I went to install windows. There was the linux root, linux swap, and linux boot.

If I remember correctly Windows XP will have to be installed on a Primary partition as well. It doesn't like being on a Logical partition under and Extended partition.
