Hi guys!
I'm a newbie in Linux, I recently installed, after have tried as many distros as I could get hold on, DSL (Damnsmall Linux). The distro is very good, and I think it is what I needed. However I seem to be stuck when it comes to the use of Internet. I can't go on the net. I have download drivers for my modem (Lucent I56LVP-C10) but I don't know how to use, I dunno how to make it work, I need to get command line to make it work.

I have to say guys, this is the best Linux forum ever found on the net. I have never seen such forum keeping in touch and helpful. Keep it up!;)

Thx guys!

Also, the Library button on JustLinux.

And,

Meet these people:
Swedish LUG's (http://www.linux.org/groups/sweden.html)

And some modems can be made to use Windows drivers on Linux with Linuxant Driverwrapper (http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/?PHPSESSID=88f169886e1278068db87dad75ada604)
(has a 30 day free trial)

What drivers did you download Ltmodem (http://www.heby.de/ltmodem/) ? All i had to do was install the ltmodem drivers and used kppp in kde to setup my connection. Theres another programe called WvDial (http://freshmeat.net/projects/wvdial/) that i like for when im not useing kde. It also helps setup your connection. Good luck.

I've split your question into a new thread as digging up a 2 year old thread titled 'Linux might not be for this Newbie' and posting a question on configuring a modem will only confuse the issue. Also I've moved your thread to the Hardware forum and given it a better subject.

<edit>

Now that I've split the thread in /dev/random and moved the new thread to Hardware, I find you have already posted a question in this forum on your modem.

Searching the JL forums for your username also finds you posted your question in two other old threads which makes a total of 4 crossposts. Please only post your question once in the most appropriate forum as it just wasted about 15 minutes of my time splitting, merging, searching and commenting due to this.

Thx Hard Candy for the links! Hope I'm gonna get me all the info I need! I'm not on Damnsmall yet, but as I soo as I can I'm gonna try it!

VoiDeR, thx also for that link, however my problem is not about how to get drivers, it is about how to make them work. Yes I downloaded it from the ltmodem.org, but as I said I'm new to Linux and I don't know how to make the dirver works. Some told me to just unziped the .tar.gz files and put them some where else on the computer, but is that all? where exactly shall I put the content of those files? /home/lib/? I don't know nothing!

Thx a lot guys for your replies! Keep on helping new people in the Linux society!
