Modem Problems (Frequent Disconnections)

Okay, I use Mandrake 7.2 with a dial-up connection to a local ISP. I have a 56k 3COM Performance Pro PCI, using setserial to get it workin, but I get frequent disconnections... The tech support said that the OS was the problem... LOL... because they used windows, so the ISP is a windows based servic provider... to bad computers communicate through a common protocol (TCP/IP) eh? Anyway, anybody konw a solution or have heard of this problem before?

I think we have talked about this before, but I have the same modem. It only got detected when I upgraded to kernel 2.4.2. I also get the error, ppp daemon died unexpectedly while trying to connect... Anyway, do you get connected and then cut off. Maybe you need a ghost browser of some sort...?

Modem works fine while I'm on, I sometimes can be on for a few hours, sometimes just 5 or so minutes, it varies.
