I'm about to build a Linux-based HTPC, and need a video card under $50. It must have good TV-out and OpenGL support under Linux. I'll be using the TV as the only monitor. Hopefully, I can find one where these features are easy to set up. What video card would you recommend? If you have this stuff already working, how did you do it and which hardware and software are you using?

TIA!

Either a Nvidia or ATI video card. Research the different models they have available on their websites and you should be able to find one that supports tv-out at a fairly decent price.

Nvidia has a Linux driver readme that explains how to setup tv-out and I would expect ATI to have the same.

The TV-out of my radeon 7000 (€50 a year ago) works with no configuration simply by selecting the vesa driver. It's not a very good driver for normal computer use, but it's fine for watching films on the TV. In general, nVidia has better support with its older (and therefore cheaper) cards.
