If you want to try out linux do this:
1. Download linux
2. Burn to cd's
3. Make a linux partition
4. Install
ReiserFS is a filesystem, but you don't have to worry about it now. It's just a new feature.
You could buy linux too. And get lots of apps and books.

I have Linux-Mandrake and on that demo it showed how to do that. Do I have to do that?

No, it doesn't (have to). Resierfs ( http://www.namesys.org ) is a journaling filesystem - meaning no fscks after reboots.
----edit----
I blew it, URL is fixed now
