I've got Mandrake 6.5 (that's what is says on the box anyway) running at home on a partitioned hard drive. The other partition has Win98.
I am not impressed with Drake and was thinking about trying SUSE. Is it possible just to install one Distro over the top of another?
OR what might be better is if there is an easy way to Upgrade from Mandrunk 6.5 to the latest without downloading that entire ISO image. Don't they have an FTP install??

Thanx

Yes, and I doubt that you'll be disapointed by the latest release. It's a biiiiig step from 6.5! I'm not sure how, but I know there is an FTP-Install floppy image that you can use. Try looking on mandrake's ftp or a mirror and see if you can find the image. :D

I was thinking about doing the same thing... I got RH6.2, and was thinking about installing OpenLinux 2.4. So I can just install over it, right? Anything special I have to do beforehand? Thx :D

I just installed Caldera 2.4 over another distro, and I just had it format the partitions during the install. I didn't really take much longer. :)

Well, I've never installed Caldera, but I would assume that it's like any other distro and includes a partitioning utility, and will format the partitions. So no there's nothing you would need to do, other then pop the installation cd in your drive and boot up and format the partition you had rh 6.2 on.

6.5 ??? No wonder you're not very impressed. Oh well, SuSE is worth a try. You don't have to do anything special before installing SuSE over MDK, you can format the partition with SuSE's installer.

Oh, I didn't mention... SuSE
IMHO, though. :D

During Caldera's 'Lizard' install, you get the choice to format chosen partitions. I always use Expert Install and I'm not sure if the other install methods give you this option.

Don't get thrown off by the 'Expert', as it just gives you all the available options during the install.

Here's the online userguide, including installation in case you need it.
