i tried gentoo awhile back, byt never was able to get it rihgt, my biggest problem was getting X to work, which i never successfully did. :(
iv heard great, (and bad too) things about it.

just want to make sure that ill have enough help anlong the way ;).

but im sorta lost on what to iso(s) to d/l
which do i need? 1.4 + the 2004.0? what?

you need one of the universal ISOs to boot from and if you are doing GRP then you need a package ISO for your arch.

universal: http://gentoo.oregonstate.edu/releases/x86/2004.0/livecd/universal/

I'm not a gentooer, but I would say since getoo is a sourced based distro I would go with the 2004.0. You will still be compiling against your system so I don't think it would be that big of a deal.

Also any packages on the cd would pretty much be upgraded when you do your the emerge upgrade.

I did attempt gentoo once, but never got it the way I wanted fast enough. So I stick with slackware.

yeah, a little colder than its supposed to be this far South.


back on topic: what stage should i start from. ive got 528k whatever broadband, if that matters.

im a total newb w/ gentoo, i want to make sure i do it right.
