Ok this is prob. simple but I can get it to work. When I try to Doenload a file from an FTP
site with Netscape it tries to read it like a web page instaed of downloading it as a file
somewhere. (funny thing is it can read some of the data)

It's probably set up in the configuration for that specific file type to try to open it. Right click on the file and choose "save as" or what comes close to that.

I too had the same problem.Even if I use "save as", it used to give problem. If u have kde, on your penguin box, just click on it and it starts downloading.Even mozilla will do

Try the Win Netscape solution -- left-shift+left-click on the link. It may not work, but it's free to try.

The Left-shift, left-click method should work.

I haven't used Netscape for quite a while though I do remember you can go into Preferences and Associations and change the action performed on the filetype to download instead of open.
