I'm downloading zipslack now, but I have several distro disks, rh 8.0, SUSe Pro 7.3, some others, that all have stuff I would like to have, but don't want to download, so, my questions are can I install these packages from other distros and have them be compatable with my base Slack kernel install?

I've messed around with Linux off and on, but not for awhile, and am basically wanting to install from base without trying to trim down an automated install, but I never ahve tried to 'mix and match' from other distro CD's, so is this possible, or am I going to have problems?

I seem to recall system calls, i.e. system IV versus system V stuff that made Slack diffeent from RH, but not if it affected individual software packages.

Thanks for any comments and/or advice.

Well duh, never mind. I found 'Linux From Scratch' in somebody's links and downloaded the books. LOL

I think this will tell what I need to know.

Thanks for the links.
