Is any version of Linux designed to fit a mini-cd specifically? If not, where can I find instructions or guidelines for making a runnable mini-cd from my current SuSe 9.0 pro distro? This would need to be limited to the ~125meg size of the media, and hopefully include USB, PCMCIA and DVD support. (May as well wish big, huh?) :D

not sure if you're looking for a live cd, but DSL (damn small linux) is only something like 64 megabytes i think..
nice list of live-cds here
http://www.frozentech.com/content/livecd.php
and if you're looking for an installable distro, im not sure of one offhand but check distrowatch :)
hope that helps :)

DamnSmallLinux (http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/) is specificly designed to run from a 64MB mini-CD.
Flonix (http://www.flonix.com/) also is small enough for a mini-CD...they even have a specific version for USB-keys, it looks like they have not updated since January though...
LNX-BBC (http://www.lnx-bbc.com/) comes on a business-card CD

And I thought Flonix was out-dated...
Download an LNX-BBC Release ISO
Release 2.1
Released 1 May 2003
Their nightly builds are up-to-date...but it appears to be automated so who knows when the last time it was updated...But looking at the CVS it's not too bad, but the last entry in the kernel section on Feb 25 is a bit distrubing doot doot doooooooooooooooooooooo
EN YOO VEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE :)

I just burned 4 Maxell mini CD-R's with:
DSL 0.6
SystemRescueCD 0.2.11
Slax Live CD 3.0.25-2
MiniKnoppix 2.0
I like them all and have yet to try Adios. Their download server (no mirrors) was painfully slow.

If you're looking for an installation from a mini-CD, any distribution that uses internet downloads during installation (SuSE personal, gentoo, ...) should have installation .iso's small enough to fit a mini-CD.

Wow!
Thanks for the advice. I'll try DSL as well as a couple of others. Since I'm already using SuSe, I'll look at their web site for a small enough .iso for my media as well. Let you know how it comes out, thanks again!

Moved to the '.iso confused - which distro?' forum.

I would recommend trying Slax out. It's a nice livecd that's supposed to fit onto mini cd's (the 185mb flavor I believe). I've tried it, and it's pretty good. Highly up to date (though no 2.6 kernel because there's no ovlfs support for it yet), and it's the fastest live cd with kde I've tried so far.

I'm giving both SLAX and DSL a try. Both look good but it'll take me a while to compare and contrast and make a decision.
Once I understand SuSe well enough, I may try to create my own "mini-distribution" of it, since I'm running the 9.0 version already and hope to be proficient with it soon (relatively speaking).
Appreciate all the great pointers!
