Ok, so I went from SuSE 8.2 to SuSE 9.0 (hardware problem)... and it sucks !! Galeon has about half the features I've ever seen, half of the stuff isn't even installed... it just plain out sucks. Galeon doesn't have the Google toolbar anymore, it doesn't do themes anymore, WTH happened? Oh yea, MDK 9.2 was EXACTLY like this... so what's goin on???

I've already switched distros, I think I stated that in my original post.

Any thoughtful comments from anyone? :)

If the only problem is Galeon(im assuming since thats all you mentioned in your post) then why not d/l and install the lastest build with all the xtras?

Oh yeah im with psi42, switch to Slackware, its the best. ;)

Gotta download and install Mozilla 1.6 apparently.

Oh yea - how can I tell Evolution to use Galeon instead of Mozilla?

Nah, I think the problem is Galeon, not the new distributions.

Think about it this way: New distributions put out newer software. If a new version of Galeon stripped out the Google bar and other features, then that would be reflected in SUSE and Mandrake, because they want to bundle the latest software in their distributions.

Try Epiphany or Mozilla Firefox.

Switching to another distribution probably won't help, but if you do -- go Gentoo! :D

You stated you'd switched from SuSE to Mandrake. I'm saying you should switch again. SuSE and Mandrake are both RedHat based and share common design goals. As it is clear you are unhappy with both distros, or at least the software they contain and the lack of the software you want, perhaps you are not in agreement with their "intended audience." Slackware, (and gentoo, debian, vector, whatever you find you like, but most likely slackware) has different design goals. From your statements, you've been using Linux for a while, so you can handle the "difficulty" of one of those distros. Slackware more about being your system (as in you are expected to customise it to your tastes) rather than a "one size fits all" plan. Not that Redhat can't be customised, of course.

you just need to configure Galeon properly. Google toolbar is right there but actually it has never been a "Google" toolbar. it is just a bookmark toolbar with Google in it.
you can add a toolbar and add http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF8&q=%s as a bookmark in it.
Galeon uses gtk2 themes, so it will support your gnome themes. whats wrong with that?
Evolution respects all the gnome environment properties. run gnome-default-applications-properties and set your default browser to galeon instead of mozilla.

Sweet, thanks man!

Got the little 'bookmark' back.

I will set the gnome environment properties now... I appreciate your post a LOT.
