Hiya Guys,

I have just got my new (well new for me) toy - a Dell Latitude CPx 500 laptop. Anyway, I have installed Slackware 9.1 and everything seams okay (bar the sound - but I figure that I will need to recompile the kernel for this support - but that's for a different thread :) )

The problem that I have is that the screen brightness is way too bright and it is becoming harder to use the computer for prolonged periods of time.

I have attempted to change the brightness of the screen in the BIOS, but this still has no effect - even on the lowest settings.

Is there anyone that could suggest the cause of the problems, or if there is some ammendment that I could make to any config files (ie. XF86Config) that would ammend this??

I am running:

Slackware 9.1
FluxBox

on:

Dell Latitude CPx 500
500MHz Processor
320MB RAM
6GB HD
14.1" Screen

Thanks for your help.

Jamie

Unless I'm very much mistaken, the brightness/contrast control is keyboard function key-based. You may find that you'll have to get drivers/modules for the integrated graphics controller. From my searches, it looks like ATI was the vendor of choice for that particular laptop model.

If it is a keyboard/hardware thing, you might have to look into hotkeys and/or make a hack for it.

I've done this for the volume control on my Dell 600m.

But these contrast buttons work without it, so they are hardware/BIOS controled.
