Ok....this is amoung those "really wierd unexplained things."

I double clicked something, and it opened in Emacs. (Oh, in Evolution by the way) Ok, so I close Emacs. It closes.

Then it reopens. So I XKill it.

It reopens. So I go to the process table. Kill it.

Guess what? Yup. So I restarted the X-Server.
<CTRL><ALT><Backspace>. And I nice fat EMacs screen stares back. Being that this box has been running Mandrake 9.2 since its release, its got enough uptime that Id rather not restart the computer.....

Any Suggestions? I mean, I could just shade Emacs, but I think I SHOULD be able to close an application...

Run "ps lx" in a terminal. Look for the entry for emacs and note the value in the PPID column. Then look for an entry that has that same value in the PID column. That'll tell you what's starting it up.

If you have it, running "pstree" will give you the same information.

try checking the gnome or kde or xfce4 session managers too...

and grep -ir "emacs" /home/you/*
