Kernel modules

I just compiled 2.4.2 and I am trying to configure my soundcard with sndconfig in RH6.2. Then sndconfig tells me that i am running a kernel with no module support even though i configured the kernel with module support. And soundcore.o is in /lib/modules/2.4.2/kernel/drivers/sound
Any ideas will be appreciated.
