Hi

I'm using Mepis with the 2.4.22 kernel - jsut a standard install. I get regular keyboard/mouse lag as well as momentary freezes in other situations ie Tuxracer or avi's. I ran 'TOP' in the console and noted that the lag/freezes coincided with a spike in CPU usage (upto 50%) by 'PUMP'.

Mepis is well suited to my needs as it has no probem recognising the Nvidia NForce2 chipset which saves me alot of hassle. This problem does not occur in other distro's I have tried so I'm baffled to say the least. I'm no network expert so have no idea whether to disable pump or not or whether there are further tweaks I can make to stop the spikes.

I'd appreciate any help you can give.

Many thanks

Hi,

Do you use DHCP assigned IP addresses??

If not, you can safely disable PUMP (i think..... *calls to someone else for confirmation*)

I installed dhcpc which automatically disabled pump - no more problems (so far). Result!
