the max sockets

i am a freshman to the forum.
i have a question about socket connection. if i have a server program listent to a specified port, i want to kown the max num of socket connections could be created simultaneity in linux. thanks.

I think that depends upon which server is listening. I know that proftpd, an ftp server, you can determine the amount connections either a single user is allowed to have or how many different users can connect at the same time. I have a feeling that this is configurable for most servers but then again I'm not completely sure.
