Hey Im thinkin about pickin up a HP that I found for sale in the paper. Its got an AMD K6-II 500MHZ cpu, 128MB's, 15Gig HD, 2x4x24x HP CDWriter PLUS!, internal modem, for $400.

I think its a good deal. Im prolly gonna pick it up on tuesday.

When I went to the lady's house (HUGE house right on a golf course, BTW) to check it out, I saw it had a cd writer in it. I said " whoa, its got a cd burner too?" She said: "Oh thats just a slot for whatever, you can put in what you want." !!!! She didn't even know there was a piece of hardware installed in that slot! :D ;)

Only downside to the deal is that the video card is PCI with shared memory. I think Im gettin a deal. Plus she's throwin in a 15" HP monitor with speakers for $75.

My question's are, Is it a good deal? Will I run into prob's installing a flavor of Linux on it?

Opinions Pleaze. The machine is only a year old.

This link might help in your decision http://www.hp.com/cposupport/personal_computing/support_doc/bph05264.html#P193_2317

I never liked integrated modem, sound and video and they could definetly make installing linux hard. $400.00 with the monitor would be a good deal. I've seen that model selling for $500.00 refurbished (with monitor but 64 megs of ram).
BTW, never say "Whoa!" when your trying to make a deal!!!
