are you using 3.3.6 or 4.0? The support in 4.0.x is better than the 3.3.6 version.
I have a computer with a sis 6326 agp video on the mainboard. I've since added diamond viper pci card and am getting better results.
Prior to that however, I also had problems.
What I found was even though it's an "8" meg card (shared with system memory so not really) It would only display properly if the system was told 4 megs. I remember reading somewhere that you could set the sis driver up to four megs but not beyond.
Second, at higher resuloutions I would get the kind of display errors you're describing-- erasing trails from windows, a shaking of windows while i moved them etc...
Try toning it down to 800x600 with 256 colors and toning down the memory setting to no 4 meg max -- if this works, start upping each setting one at a time to test the limits of your system.
Hope this helps.

I think that the 620 is the same thing as the 6326 so try the driver for that one and see if it works. Also, I think there is a way to turn on "Software Mouse" mode or something like that, which might just do the trick. :)

Tnks to both you, I shall try it... been working hard and haven't had the time to check the post .. will post the outcome. :)
i got my sis 6326 workiing flawlessly by doing this:
install XFree86 4.0.2
run the setup for it
either change to or choose 4 mb of video ram
and in the /etc/X11/XF86COnfig file make sure it says 4096 for ram, and then add "sw_cursor" as an option.
thats a very generic way of putting it, but i know you will find it.

So, what kind of resolution are you getting??
I've settled on 16 bit color at 1024x768
What's the "sw_cursor" setting anyway --?
