Just out of interest, what are people's favourite Live-CD distros? I only really have experience with Knoppix, so I'll have to go for that - can't wait until 3.4 with the 2.6 kernel and captive-ntfs :D

I only really have experience with Knoppix, so I'll have to go for that - can't wait until 3.4 with the 2.6 kernel and captive-ntfs :D Icarus 03-01-2004, 05:22 PM Knoppix has been wearing thin on me (something about Debain that just doesn't sit well with me...oh ya, everyone wants to use KDE with it :)) I'm kind of anxious to build a custom Gentoo live-cd using Catalyst (http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/releng/catalyst/) serz 03-01-2004, 05:22 PM From the Live-CDs I tried... I liked KNOPPIX. Freesbie (www.freesbie.org/) (FreeBSD Live-CD) is pretty good, but I haven't tried it much. Hayl 03-01-2004, 05:25 PM the only 1 I use is the gentoo-livecd-based System Rescue CD: http://www.sysresccd.org/ hard candy 03-01-2004, 05:39 PM Dynebolic (http://dynebolic.org/) for the artsy/techno bent in live cd's. Fancy startup live cd's are a dime a dozen, but one the pays homage to the muses as well and is made by crazy Italians who like the Rastaman, that's for me. Have you ever heard a raggae song in Italian? Plus it loads on my xbox too. :) EnigmaOne 03-01-2004, 05:50 PM Read this article: http://desktops.linux.com/article.pl?sid=04/02/09/1840218 while adding the live CD version of Lindows to your options. As does the author, I prefer Slax, but was somewhat impressed with what MandrakeSoft did with MandrakeMove. No surprises from the newest Knoppix release--a solid option indeed. If you're a complete noobie, I'd stack rank them as follows (for ease of use): Lindows Live MandrakeMove Knoppix Slax ...or as follows (according to my personal index of "coolness"): Slax MandrakeMove Knoppix Lindows Live questionasker 03-01-2004, 05:54 PM SLAX (slackware-live) is good. so is mepis is you have a hankering to install on the HD. mandrakemove is ok, but its not my fav. i posted this in another forum, but i dont guess i can say which. (hint: its a .org site) XiaoKJ 03-02-2004, 09:22 AM I have tried puppylinux and demolinux. Puppylinux wins in being smaller and faster while demolinux wins in usability. I love them and added them to my "most impt resources to save computer software problems" which included MS-DOS 7.10 (quite hard ot find, just search it in google), PQ Partition magic boot disks, and windows disks. Love linux......... I had just downloaded SUSE 9.0 LIVE-EVAL, can't wait to try it! theN 03-05-2004, 03:10 AM MEPIS (www.mepis.org) regards akr Admiral Frosty 03-06-2004, 03:10 PM AdvanceCD!
