Hey folx....Got a question. I recently picked up a Sun Ultra 5 and it came with a (I think) tweaky keyboard. So far I've gone through 2 mice and neither of them work. (They are type 1 mice...which isn't what the manual says fits, but I have it on authority they should) Anyway, instead of fighting with yet another mouse, or trying to swap out the controller in the keyboard, I was wondering if a serial mouse wouldn't work. (Assuming of couse that I ditch Solaris (it's dog slow anyway) in favor of one of the flavors of Linux. (I dl'd Mandrak 7.1 for SPARC the other day, but haven't had a chance to try it yet.) I've been kinda given the impression that SPARCS support more hardware (esp. the PCI stuff) with Linux than they do with Solaris, so I thought it might be worth a shot. (USB on a SPARC here I come :D )

I have a Glidepoint touchpad on my Cirque keyboard that uses serial and I have the following in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4

Section "InputDevice"
Driver "mouse"
Identifier "Mouse[1]"
Option "AutoSoft" "on"
Option "Device" "/dev/ttyS0"
Option "Name" "Autodetection"
Option "Protocol" "GlidePoint"
Option "Vendor" "Sysp"
Option "Resolution" "800"
Option "Buttons" "3"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection

com1 - ttyS0
com2 - ttyS1
