I Have very interesting problem, and noone can answer it till now, so may be here i'll find some guru :
I have 2 HD - 1 (HDA) Win2K, 2 (HDC) MDK 8.1
the HDA is constant in the computer, and the HDC is removable. The LILO boot manager used.
The problem starts when i need to remove the Linux HD and insert some other (win) HD to copy files from the work at home, actualy i remove the Linux HD and it removes the LILO so the machine can't boot into the Windows. I've tried to boot with Linux boot diskete and write'windows' - no help. The question is : How i boot to my windows , when the Linux HD is not present ?
I hope someone will help me here, becouse it's my last chance ....

Could you please post a copy of your /etc/lilo.conf so we can try to figure out what is happening with the boot process?

The problem is, that i actually take the Linux HD out, and actually, not matter what wrote in the lilo.conf - it's not available at all - this HD is out and another one in instead !

I just wanted to see how the boot partitions were setup in lilo.conf and where lilo was installed to.

I'm not sure if this will help or is the correct way to fix your problem, but have you tried using fdisk and setting the Windows partition as active?
